Who we are

Initially started in January 2020 on an informal basis, Bremzero is now a small Charity with three trustees – Tara, Sue and Derek and many supportive members. Our mission is to create a local consensus delivering action and support in response to the climate emergency. We run a number of meetings and community activities in Bremhill parish and the Marden Valley.

Derek Chase

Derek is a retired GP and has had an interest in the environment since 2010 when he travelled to the Arctic and saw for himself the effects of the early ice melting. Not only did he realise the effect that global warming would have on the environment itself, he also understood the direct effects that pollution and migration would have on people’s health. As a medical teacher, senior manager as well as a hands on doctor he has been committed to making others aware of this issue in the belief that through action we can together made a difference.

Tara Castle

Tara spent most of her career working as an Estate Manager for the National Trust.  She has always had an interest in conservation and the environment having grown up on a small farm in Wiltshire which she still manages.  Her interest in the climate and biodiversity has grown over recent years as she has become more aware of these issues, and she is increasingly concerned about the state of the planet that we are passing on to future generations.  Tara also works part time as a project coordinator for a local tree planting charity, Avon Needs Trees.

Sue Allen

Sue is co-founder of Microbz Ltd, a Wiltshire company making and distributing natural soil-based probiotic supplements for human, animal and soil health. She has a long-standing interest in nature conservation and is also a member of the Bremhill Vales Farmers Group.

Local groups

Just about every community has sprouted a local environmental group with a vision of a world in which there are zero carbon emissions, waste and pollution. Our nearest groups are:

Sustainable Calne

Sustainable Calne is an active local group running local projects such as monitoring pollution in the River Marden and regular Repair Cafes, plus advice and contacts on Solar PV buying schemes and Wildflower planting sites in the town, among other initiatives.
