I worked for Shell until I was 50. OK, not a great qualification for an environmental enthusiast. My conscience was clearly troubled as I joined Greenpeace in 1984 in a subversive protest about Shell’s exploration programme. When I left Shell we moved to Devon and I started a renewable energy company. which installed Solar thermal and Solar PV panels, biomass boilers, and 60 wind turbines (5kW and 11kW) across the South West. I retired from this nerve-racking occupation and joined Exeter Community Energy which did a lot to raise awareness about Climate Change and installed PV systems with the profits going towards mitigating fuel poverty in Exeter.
I believe that we do face an environmental and climate change emergency, and I am very frustrated by the lack of urgency shown by all levels of government, and by large proportions of the population.
Every one of us needs to do what we can to create beneficial change.
